HOT TEA

How to steep a proper cup of tea.

Brewing loose leaf tea isn't hard. You just gotta time it right.

Get Ready

  • Heat fresh water to the proper temperature for your tea.
  • Measure the tea: about 1 teaspoon per 8 oz (1 cup) of water.
  • Place leaves in an infuser or teapot so they have room to expand.
  • Pour hot water over the leaves.
  • Steep for the recommended time (see below).
  • Remove the leaves or infuser to prevent bitterness.

Enjoy your tea. Many loose-leaf teas can be steeped 2–3 times.

Tip: Over-steeping can make tea bitter, especially green and black teas.
